Eureka Nevada Eureka is one of the state's best preserved 19th-century towns. Many of its stone and brick structures date from about 1880, and were initially built as the town settled and prospered as the original mines were being developed. Eureka was first settled in 1865 after the discovery of a rich ore deposit in the area and was subsequently designated the County Seat in 1873. Nearby active mines include Barrick’s Ruby Hill Mine. The principle mines of the Carlin Trend are located in the north end of the county, and include the Gold Quarry, Carlin, and Betze-Post mines.

Primarily a ranching, agricultural and mining community, mild temperatures, along with the surrounding mountains and the Humboldt River, make Eureka County an outdoor playground. The outdoor enthusiast will never lack for activity. Hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming and much more are all readily available.
