Battle Mountain sits near the geographic center of the state which also lies in Lander County. With access from the North,
South, East and West it provides the halfway point to just about everywhere you need to be in the state. It is in the heart of one
of the world's richest gold-producing regions, home to the Western Shoshone Native Americans, ranching and of course we can't forget
the history and culture of the Basque sheepherders. Once famous for its quality turquoise mines, there are still plenty of
opportunities in the area for aspiring miners to discover a treasure trove of surprises.
Since the discovery of silver in Galena Canyon in 1863, mineral production of Lander County through 1967 totaled more than $110 million dollars, with the Battle Mountain District, located south of the town of Battle Mountain, yielding the largest value. Current mining activities that help support the town of Battle Mountain include the Phoenix Mine to the south and the Cortez Complex Mines to the east.
Battle Mountain is the perfect access point to literally hundreds of miles of back-country roads and trails. It offers unlimited outdoor recreation with year round access to public
lands. Hunting, Fishing and 4-wheeling are favorite activities of locals and visitors alike.
One of the highlights of the hunting season is the Annual Chukar Tournament and feed. Other outdoor recreation include a ATV and motorcross
track, Copper Basin Mountain Bike Trail, 9 hole golf course, swimming pool, 4 community parks and a nice rodeo grounds.
The town is famous across America and internationally for its Human Powered Speed Challenge and its Annual Pony Express open road car race.
Late summer the town shifts gears with old time country flair as bluegrass music fills the air at the Battle Mountain Music Festival.
The area around Battle Mountain is filled with old west stories, wildlife, mountains, sagebrush, and more natural beauty than the eye
can behold. Adventure seekers can be spotted year round on the back roads scouting, hiking, mountain biking and just exploring the
amazing vast areas.
Battle Mountain offers employment opportunities with a higher income potential than most small communities. Adding to that we have
